  • Inspect the entire surface for any open seams, tears, cuts, etc. and fix it with ToughSealer™ and a flexible, reinforcing membrane

  • Pressure wash roof with water and allow to dry completely.

Priming
  • ToughSealer™ will adhere to most surfaces without a primer;

  • It can be directly applied to cement, galvanize and concrete.

  • If ToughSealer™ is used on old paint use a primer to prepare the surface.

Application Instructions
  • Preferably two coats are required.

  • It is recommended to paint ToughRoof™ over ToughSealer™ for longer lasting results

  • On all absorbent surfaces, thin down first coat with up to 20% water

  • Chalky surfaces must be primed with bonding liquid

  • ToughSealer™ must be stirred properly

  • Allow the first coat to dry for at least 3 hours.

  • Apply second coat as soon as the first coat can be safely walked on.

  • Coverage rate may decrease on textured surfaces, and more coating will likely be used on first coat than on additional coats.

  • Do not apply in temperatures below 10°C, above 35°C, if rain is expected within 2 hours or Humidity above 85%.

  • Do not walk on ToughSealer™ other than for periodic maintenance

  • Ensure your paint is applied smoothly as ToughSealer™ is designed to give a smooth finish so that dirt can wash off

Biological Control

Areas of algae, mildew or fungus should be treated with a solution of 1 part household bleach and 3 parts water, followed by a powerwash rinse using clear water.

Clean Up & Maintenance
  • Application tools and equipment can be cleaned with 100% pure mineral spirits.

  • Once a container of ToughSealer™ is opened, the curing process has started. Use the entire product on your project if possible.

  • Roof structures may settle over time. A periodic inspection of your roof, which includes transition areas, flashing, vents and skylights, is recommended. Keep drains cleared at all times.

  • Roofs become slippery when wet. Use extreme caution.

Caution

An old, neglected, or failing roof does not have the resilience to withstand the rigors of weather.

ToughSealer™ may not be suitable for such a roof. If you are in doubt about the condition of your roof, consult a qualified roof inspector.
